The Issaquah School Board will deviate slightly from the district superintendent’s plan to close Tiger Mountain Community High School after the 2014-15 school year.

In a 5-0 vote Oct. 22, the board chose to approve the closure a year later, at the end of the 2015-16 school year. Board members said delaying the closure for a year, and then opening a new alternative school at the start of the 2016-17 year, will remove any gaps in alternative education for Issaquah School District students.

Several parents and Tiger Mountain students spoke to the board, similar to a series of meetings and public hearings that began taking place in February. That’s when Superintendent Ron Thiele first announced a plan to close Tiger Mountain at the end of the 2014-15 year.

More information on the board meeting and the future of Tiger Mountain will be published Oct. 29.
