The Issaquah School District is holding three meetings in March for families of third-grade students interested in joining the district’s science and technology magnet programs.
The programs typically serve 50-plus fourth- and fifth-grade students over a two-year period. The magnet program is located at Briarwood, Cascade Ridge and Clark elementary schools, but is open to students from other schools.
The magnet program covers the standard district-adopted fourth- and fifth-grade curriculum, with an emphasis on science and technology. Grade-specific math instruction is also provided.
Families interested in enrolling third-grade students in the program next year must attend an informational meeting, unless they’ve previously had a student participate.
Times and locations for the meetings are 6-7 p.m. March 11 at Briarwood; 6-7 p.m. March 18 at Cascade Ridge; and 6-7 p.m. March 25 at Clark.
Due to high demand for the magnet programs, families are asked to select one school’s program for which they would like to be considered. Transportation to each program is a family responsibility.
Through a lottery, students will be selected from all district elementary schools with an attempt to balance the enrollment between schools. Placement letters will be mailed to homes in May.
