Music students from the Issaquah School District, Lake Washington School District and Eastside Catholic School have been selected to take part in the Washington Music Educators Association’s all-state ensembles in February.
The WMEA selects students from around the state annually for its all-state groups, which include multiple bands, orchestras and choirs. The ensembles will practice and perform under the direction of world-renowned conductors in Yakima from Feb. 12-16.
The musicians were selected through auditions.
Eastlake High School students who were selected include senior Erik Binkhuysen (viola) for the all-state chamber orchestra; junior Nagisa Nakano (trumpet) and freshman Ryan Saathoff (French horn) for the all-state concert band; and juniors Jacob Berg and Catherine Hatlelid for the all-state symphonic choir.
Issaquah schools had 39 students selected from Pine Lake and Beaver Lake middle schools.
Pine Lake students chosen were Isaac Brinkerhoff (baritone) and David Hilliker (baritone) for mixed choir; Eric Candaux (baritone sax) and Melena Seidel (bassoon) for Rainier band; Arjun Malhotra (snare drum and timpani) for Baker band; Mia Crocker (alto), Haydn Fitzgerald (alto), Noelle Foster (alto), Jahnavi Prasanna (alto), Oriana Roseburg (alto), Harry Rosenthal (soprano) and Teagan Servais (alto) for youth choir; Ashley Smart (alto) for treble choir; and Elizabeth Heitkamp (violin); Jackie O’Hara (viola); Audrey Qui (cello); Benjamin Wang (violin); and Richard Zhang (violin) for orchestra.
Beaver Lake students were youth choir singer Rohini Achal (soprano), Karly Bauman (soprano), Rachel Clark (soprano), Charlie Ganz (alto), Saba Mir (alto), Jennifer Nomura (alto), Briana Tuvey (soprano), Rachel Wilson (soprano) and Hunter Wray (alto); mixed choir singers Zac Mazzuca (baritone), Matilyn Ransom (soprano), Gavin Roberts (baritone), Matthew Turtel (baritone), Nathan Tuvey (baritone), Aaron Wang (baritone), Noah Wong (baritone) and Rachel Young (soprano); treble choir singers Emma Fritton (soprano) and Rhiannon Rooney (soprano); and orchestra members Heliqiong Sun (violin) and Kevin Zhu (cello).
Sammamish residents from Eastside Catholic who were selected include singers Grace Tacchetti and Hannah Ahern for the all-state mixed choir, and five instrumentalists for the all-state wind symphony: Michelle Taam (flute), Mitchell Schmidt (trombone), Anthony Schmidt (trumpet), Aaron Ao (tuba) and Emilyn-Amalea Head (flute).
